BREWER – Frances Johnson Guild, 84, died peacefully May 30, 2008, at a Brewer health care center, five days after suffering a stroke, and just eight days after the death of her husband, Charles F. Guild Jr. The couple would have been married 60 years in June. Born Frances Ella Johnson, May 7, 1924, in Bangor, she was the daughter of Harry and Una Johnson of Bangor. She attended Bangor schools and graduated from Bangor High School in 1942. After marrying fellow Bangor High School classmate, Charles F. Guild Jr., the Guild’s moved to Brewer, where they lived for more than 50 years. For more than 25 years, Mrs. Guild worked for Dr. Hadley Parrot of Bangor, as an assistant in his office focusing her attention on the personal needs of his patients. Known for her joyous nature, she enjoyed her family’s Green Lake camp and was an avid Boston Red Sox fan. But above all else, Frannie Guild was devoted to her beloved husband, Charlie, from whom she was inseparable. Mrs. Guild is survived by two nephews, former Maine Gov. John R. McKernan Jr. of Falmouth and his wife, U.S. Sen. Olympia J. Snowe; Robert T. McKernan of Alexandria, Va., and his wife, Kim, and their two sons, Kyle and Ryan; and her brothers-in-law, Gerald A. Guild of Summit, N.J., and his wife, Connie; Peter M. Guild of Dallas and his wife, Betty; numerous other nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. The family is appreciative of the empathy and professionalism of the doctors, nurses and staff of Eastern Maine Medical Center; and also wants to thank the exceptional staff at Brewer Rehabilitation and Living Center for all they did, for both Frannie and Charlie Guild throughout their illnesses and especially, for their comforting care and friendship. There will be a graveside service later in June at a time to be announced at Pine Grove Cemetery for both Charlie and Frannie Guild with the Rev. Dr. Rex H. Garrett, director of chaplaincy services at Eastern Maine Medical Center officiating. Donations in her memory can be made to Eastern Maine Medical Center, care of Healthcare Charities, P.O. Box 931, Bangor, ME 04402-0931. Con-dolences to the family may be expressed at www.BrookingsSmith.com.
