PEMBROKE – Carolyn J. Burns, better known as “Dolly,” passed away June 4, 2008, with her family at her side at Eastport Memorial Nursing Home, after a brief illness. She was born June 23, 1926, in Pembroke, daughter of Hazel and Henry Brown. She attended Pembroke schools and was a graduate of Bradford Academy School of Hairdressing, Boston. She worked at local fish factories and made many friends while doing so. Dolly enjoyed her telephone friends and also her visits from Donnie and Merle. She greatly appreciated all they did for her. Dolly was an avid animal lover; always taking in stray cats and dogs and making sure the birds had plenty to eat. Dolly was predeceased by her loving husband and best friend, Raymond B. Burns, in 1998. They were married 53 years. She is survived by her brother, Wayne “Buddy” Brown and wife, Shelia; a loving sister-in-law, Grace Lane; her nephews, Ray Lane and Kevin Brown and his wife, Mary, and their children, Maggie, Shannon and Colin; nieces, Kim Varney and her husband, Bill, and children, Kali and Jared, and Karen Dragoo and daughter, Haley; an aunt, Inez Mills; and cousins, John Bennett and wife, Claire, and Judy Turner and husband, Dana; also very special to her were Wesley and Heather Turner and their children, Cole, Chase and Christian and Christina and Gerald Greenlaw and their children, Drew and Madison. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Friday at Mays Funeral Home – Flagg Chapel, 72 High St., Eastport.
