HAMPDEN – Francis (McDonough) Mooney, 79, the wife of James J. Mooney, passed away from advanced Parkinson’s Disease, June 30, 2005, at a Bangor healthcare facility. She was born Jan. 11, 1926, in Hampden, the daughter of Thomas R. and Jennie (Lonsdale) McDonough. Frances was a lifelong resident of Hampden and a communicant of St. Matthews Catholic Church of Hampden. She was a graduate of John Bapst High School, Class of 1944, and attended Husson College. Frances had worked with her husband Jim at their family business, Sterns Lumber Company of Hampden for many years. She enjoyed winters in Florida, her Boxer dogs, ice cream, family gatherings and celebrations, and the great memories at Green Lake. Frances was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother whose focus in life was always on her family and their activities. She leaves a legacy of strong Catholic faith and love for her family and community. She will be sadly missed. Frances is survived by her husband of 58 years, James of Hampden and Summerfield, Fla.; her children, Mary Jane MacKenzie of Hampden, James J. Mooney Jr. and his wife, Stephanie, of Hampden, John G. Mooney of Bangor, and Patrick M. Mooney and his wife, Debbie, of Millinocket; one sister, Patricia Carey of Waterville; grandchildren, Jennifer Haskell, Patsy Oversmith, Emily LeBlanc, Robbie MacKenzie, Bridget MacKenzie, James J. Mooney III, Thomas Mooney, Sara Mooney, Laura Mooney, Nicholas Mooney, Kristen Mooney and Alexandria Mooney; great-grandchildren, Bryce, Shaniah, Brevan, MacKenzie and Blake Haskell, Tyler and Paxton Oversmith, Brianna LeBlanc, Seth and Alexis MacKenzie and Oliviah and Madysin Perry; sisters-in-law, Frances Coffin, Margaret Yargates, and Mary Dwinal; one niece, Rebecca Kane; and four nephews, Thomas and Michael Carey, and Phillip and Mark Coffin. She was predeceased by her son-in-law, Robert MacKenzie on Jan. 13, 2000. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Matthews Catholic Church, 70 Western Ave., Hampden, Mount with the Rev. Robert Vaillancourt, pastor, celebrant. Interment will follow in the family lot at Pleasant Catholic Cemetery, Bangor. Arrangements entrusted to the Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden.
