STOCKHOLM – Francis Alden Anderson, 83, died Nov. 6, 2004, at a Caribou healthcare facility after a brief illness. He was born Oct. 7, 1921, at Stockholm the son of John and Alma (Peterson) Anderson. After graduating from school he worked for Reed and Prance Co. of Worcester, Mass., before enlisting in the U.S. Navy in September 1942. He served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater of operations aboard the USS Denver and then the USS Newport, R.I. After the war he returned to Stockholm where for the next 55 years he owned and operated a gasoline station and auto service center. Francis will be missed by his many friends and family as his establishment was one of the town’s gathering points. He was a life member of both the Trinity Lutheran Church and the Perkins-Plourde American Legion Post, both of Stockholm. He is survived by one brother, Frederick Anderson of Stockholm; one sister, Vivian Anderson of Stockholm; six nephews, seven nieces. He was predeceased by four brothers, Clarence Anderson, Fernald Anderson, Elwood Anderson, and Warren Anderson; and by one sister, Astrid Sandstrom. Family and friends may call 7-9 p.m. Monday, at the Lancaster Morgan Funeral Home, 11 Clover St., Caribou. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2004, at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Stockholm, with the Rev. James Morgan, Pastor officiating. Military committal services will follow at the Stockholm Cemetery, Stockholm, conducted by the officers and members of the Perkins-Plourde Post American Legion.
