ST. ALBANS – Francis Calvin “Bun” Stadig, 79, died Aug. 15, 2006, at Sebas-ticook Valley hospital. He was born Feb. 17, 1927, in St. Francis, the son of Randolph and Dora (Byram) Stadig. He started working in the woods at age 11 helping his older brother and father cutting wood. Most of his working life was in the woods or work related to the lumber industry, either cutting or trucking. He operated a wood contracting business and did his own trucking until his health forced him to retire. He served two tours of duty in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany after World War II. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and outdoor activities and made several trips to Labrador to fish. In 1951, he married Mabel Lawrence and they had four children. He is survived by his wife, Mabel of St. Albans; son, Bruce and wife, Christina, of Oxbow; daughter, Brenda and husband, David Carr, of Harmony; daughter, Janet and husband, Mike, of St. Albans; son, Lee and wife, Alice, of Solon; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Norman and wife, Veneine, of Harmony and Gerald of Harmony; one sister, Althea and husband, Kenneth Hughes, of Gakona, Alaska; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and a younger brother, who died as a child. At his request, there will be no visiting hours or funeral services and his body will be cremated.
