WATERVILLE – Francis N. Nicola Sr., 79, of Cherry Hill Drive, died Sunday, April 25, 2004, at Oak Grove Rehabilitation and Living Center, Waterville, following a long illness. He was born Oct. 20, 1924, in Old Town, a son of the late Albert J. and Alice (Socobie) Nicola. Prior to his retirement, Mr. Nicola had been employed by Lafield Welding in San Francisco for more than 20 years. He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Phyllis (Lewis) Nicola; his stepmother, Lisa High; a stepbrother, Ralph Nicola; and a stepsister, Alberta Nicola. Mr. Nicola is survived by two sons, Nick Nicola of Carmel, and Steven Nicola of Topsham; five daughters, Lois Hostnick of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Alice Nicola-Acosta of Belmont, Calif., Kathleen Brown of Waterville, Cynthia Hathaway of Aurora, Colo., and Lisa Morin of Topsham; a brother, Frederick Nicola of Old Town; three grandchildren, Matthew Hostnick, Sarah Metrock-Taber and Christopher Nicola; a great-granddaughter, Abigail Taber; and several nieces and cousins. At his request, there will be no public visiting hours. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, May 7, at Plummer Funeral Home, Windsor Chapel, 983 Ridge Rd. (Rt. 32), Windsor.
