BUCKSPORT and ROCKLAND – Francis Sterling “Jake” Alden, 75, died Dec. 31, 2005, at a Penobscot nursing home. He was born Dec. 28, 1930, in Rockland, son of Earl J. and Lillian (Fifeld) Alden. He was a graduate of Rockland High School and a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army. He loved the outdoors, enjoyed going for walks, was an avid sports fan and was involved with H.O.M.E. Co-op for several years. He is survived by his wife, Arlene (Wall) Alden of Penobscot; five children, Elizabeth Carter and her husband, Chris, of Biddeford, Patricia Smith and her husband, David, of Maryland, Phillip Alden and his wife, Theresa, of Portland, Lena Dudley and her husband, Freeman, of Rockland, Wayne Alden and his wife, Elizabeth, of Cushing; grandchildren, Megan Sawyer, Jennifer Engel, Deborah Weiss, Steven Smith, Michelle Alden, Michael Alden, Jackie Dudley, Henry Dudley III, Joseph Swain, Tanya Preston; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Paul Alden of Rockland; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Jake was predeceased by a brother, John Alden. Visitation will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4, until time of service at the Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport. Funeral services will be held noon Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2006, with Fr. Randy Eldridge officiating. Interment will be in the Maine Veteran’s Cemetery, Augusta.
