OLD TOWN – Franklin Eugene Rollins, 82, died Dec. 10, 2005, at Maine Veterans’ home in Bangor. He was born Feb. 10, 1923, in Greenbush, the third son of Oscar and Ava (Smart) Rollins. He was educated in the small one-room schoolhouse near his home in Greenbush. He left school prior to graduation to enlist in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and served his country from Jan. 24, 1942 until Oct. 9, 1945. Upon returning home from the War, he moved to Isleboro to seek employment. In Isleboro, he met his future wife, the former Shirley Dodge. He was employed by the Isleboro school department as a janitor, school bus driver and basketball coach. When he wasn’t coaching basketball he could still be found on the court as a basketball referee. He was also employed by the MDOT, Vanco and drove school bus in Greenbush. He was a member of the Isleboro Masonic Lodge No. 89 and the West Enfield VFW Post No. 9429. His love for sports continued as he followed University of Maine athletics especially the basketball and hockey teams. One of Frank’s proudest accomplishments came in August 2002, when, with the help of State Representative Anita Haskell, he received his Old Town High School Diploma. He is survived by a son, Phillip Rollins of Dexter; three grandchildren, Samantha Rol-lins of Dexter, Alicia Gray and Matthew Gray of Brewer; two great-grandchildren, Tyler Gray and Tabitha Rollins; a good friend, Doris Simons and her children, Marty and Joey Simons; a sister, Georgie Garceau of Union; two nieces, Sylvia Fish and Charlene Vandez; and two nephews, Mark and Brian Garceau. He was predeceased by his wife, Shirley; a son, Dennis Rollins; a granddaughter, Shirley Anne; brothers, Phillip Rollins and James “Chuck” Rollins; and a sister, Frances Vandez. A graveside service with military honors will be announced in the spring at the Gould’s Ridge Cemetery, Passadumkeag. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O.
