ROQUE BLUFFS – Fred James Richards, 83, died unexpectedly March 19, 2008, at a Bangor hospital. Fred was born July 1, 1924, to Harold and Ruth (Wallace) Richards. Fred worked at various jobs throughout his lifetime and was known for being a jack-of-all-trades. Fred retired in 1990 as an ironworker for Union Local 496. Fred loved to tell stories, enjoyed his family and friends, and especially enjoyed entertaining the children that often came to visit him and swing on Fred’s pole! Fred is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Barbara (Stoddard) Richards of Roque Bluffs; one brother, John Preston of Jonesboro; four sons, Steven and his wife, Laurie Richards, of Kennebec, Russell and his wife, Linda Richards, of Norridgewock, Jeffrey Richards of Belgrade, Peter Richards and his companion, Cheryl Johnson, of Roque Bluffs, and David and his wife, Alice Richards, of Whitefield; 19 grandchildren, Cona, Christy, Deanna, Shannon, Joseph, Ty, Benjamin, Sarah, Anna, Jessica, Amanda, Dean, Nicki, Jason, Mandy, Billy, Joshua Adam, Joshua Aaron and Jennifer; 21 great-grand-children, many close nieces and nephews. Fred was predeceased by three of his children, Rebecca, Sharon and Michael; four brothers, Willis, Gene, George and Phillip; and three sisters, Ruth, Martha and Dot. A committal service will be held at Great Cove Cemetery at a later date.
