VERONA ISLAND – Fred W. Meade, 96, died July 23, 2005, on Verona Island. He was born Dec. 15, 1908, on Verona Island, the son of Capt. Roy A. and Ethel (Hopkins) Meade. Fred was a World War II Veteran, serving in the U.S. Army. He worked as an electrician and on the family farm on Verona Island. He lived in the family home where he enjoyed caring for his sisters, gardening, and being outdoors. He took great pleasure in his later years watching the boats on the water. Fred is survived by a brother, Durward Meade; two sisters, Leola Meade and Elinor Meade, all of Verona Island. He was a beloved uncle to Claudia Gilbert and Nonie Varnum, and several great-nieces and great-nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; five sisters, Corinne Gilbert, Hildred McIntyre, Thelma Meade, Phyllis Meade, and Muriel Meade. Visitation for family and friends will be 4-6 p.m. Tuesday, at the Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport, where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, with Pastor Peter Remick officiating. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery, Bucksport.
