FARMINGTON – Ruth A. McNeeland, 87, of Carrabassett Valley, died early Sunday morning, July 24, 2005, at Franklin Memorial Hospital, Farmington. She was born April 13, 1918, in Bridgewater, Mass., the daughter of Theodore and Marjorie S. (Gould) Penley. She graduated from Bridgewater High School and earned a degree in Education from the Bridgewater State Teacher’s College. She married Frederick L. McNeeland. Her beloved husband predeceased her in 1975. In addition to being a homemaker, she was employed at the Boy Scout’s of America office in Boston for a couple of years. She resided in Cutler for 30 years before moving to Carrabassett Valley in 1996. While in Cutler, she enjoyed her membership at the United Methodist Church and served as choir director and church organist. Her artistic talent kept her hands from being idle as she enjoyed painting, wood carving, cross-stitch, knitting, gardening, playing the piano and organ and painting homemade cards as gifts to family members and dear friends. Her daughter and son-in-law survive her, Rebecca “Becky” Morin and Ron Morin of Carrabassett Valley; two special nieces, Susan Hill of California and Jean Johnson of Pennsylvania; her cat, Sam; two special friends, Helen Targett, Betsy Graves and Judi Wills, and the following caregivers with whom she shared many a special trip, nature walk and daily lunch and without whom she would not have been able to maintain an independent lifestyle at her beloved home, Tina Ryan, Debbie Townsend, Sharon Farnsworth, Deborah Clague, Gloria Walker, Hannah Sullivan, Connie Frost and Linda Neuschwanger. Public memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, July 29, from the United Methodist Church, Cutler. Following services, a reception will be held in the church vestry. Private burial at the Cutler Cemetery. Those who desire may give gifts in her memory to Franklin Memorial Hospital, 111 Franklin Health Commons, Farmington, ME 04938. Arrangements are in the care of the Wiles Funeral Home, Cremation Service and Remembrance Center, 137 Farmington Falls Rd. (Routes 2 and 27), Farmington.
