FORT FAIRFIELD – Freda (Hill) Pye, 92, died Saturday morning, Oct. 2, 2004, at a Caribou healthcare facility, following a brief illness. She was born Feb. 20, 1912, at Caribou, the daughter of Frederick A. and Claire (Rowe) Haley. She was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church, Fort Fairfield, was a 1932 graduate of the Fort Fairfield High School and was married to Ralph Hill in 1932. Following Ralph’s death, Freda was later married to Richard Pye in 1983. She was employed by SAD 20, Fort Fairfield in the school lunch program and was a “Grandma to all the children.” Freda enjoyed crocheting and knitting, especially mittens and baby sweaters. She will be remembered as a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. In addition to her parents, Freda was predeceased by her husband, Ralph Hill in 1975; and her husband, Richard Pye in 1989. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Ralph and Mary Hill, of Yarmouth, Randy and Martha Hill, of Fort Fairfield; two daughters and sons-in-law, Ardith and Earlan Turner, Susan and Peter LeVasseur, all of Fort Fairfield; one brother, Ralph “Bud” Haley of Fort Fairfield; one sister, Alice Barnes of Clearwater, Fla.; 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews. At Freda’s prior request, there will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be conducted 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2004, at the Bethel Baptist Church, corner of Presque Isle Street and Main Street, Fort Fairfield with Asa Cook officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mrs. Pye may be give to the Fort Fairfield Public Library, 339 Main St., Fort Fairfield, ME 04742. Envelopes will be available at the church.
