PATTEN – Arthur Hayden Pratt, 92, died Oct. 1, 2004. Born Feb. 20, 1912, the oldest of four children to Garfield and Mabel (Libby) Pratt of Macwahoc. For a number of years, Arthur taught at the one room school house in Macwahoc. Upon moving to Plainville, Conn. he worked at various jobs but was best known for managing a local eatery. In 1969, Arthur returned to Maine and until retirement in 1990 he was employed by Baxter State Park, at Mattagamen Gate House. Arthur was a published author, enjoyed composing poetry, was an avid golfer and fisherman. In later years, Arthur enjoyed eating at Sherman Irving and conversing with its patrons. He was a lifelong Boston Red Sox fan, always listening to a game. Arthur is survived by his former wife, Norma Parks Pratt of Bristol, Conn.; eight children, Robert, Francis, Reggie, Alice, Richard, Betty, Larry and June; several grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and will be sadly missed by a special niece, Jackie Pratt of Sherman Station. He was predeceased by sisters, Alice Perkins of Connecticut, Helen Gifford of Millinocket; a brother, Franklin Pratt of Lisbon Falls; longtime companion, Dorothy Pratt of Patten; and granddaughter, Maura Pratt Micari of Bristol, Conn. At Arthur’s request there will be no visitation. Burial at the family lot in Macwahoc. The family wishes to thank Gardiner Healthcare Facility for their excellent care and compassion to Arthur during his final days. Arrangements by Bowers Funeral Home, Island Falls.
