DEER ISLE – Freda A. Sturdee, 84, wife of the late David A. Sturdee, passed away Oct. 16, 2004, at the Blue Hill Hospital with her family at her side. She was born Dec. 13, 1919, in Mt. Ida, Ark. She moved from Oklahoma to Maine in 1948, and married David April 30, 1948. She worked at Harbor Lights Restaurant and Captain’s Quarters Motel. She continued working there until her retirement. She was very active in the community and was a member of the Stonington Methodist Church. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who enjoyed cooking and caring for her family. Freda is survived by two brothers, Vernon Wheeler of Colorado, and Claude Wheeler of California; four half-sisters, Deloris, Betty, Linda and Barbara of Oklahoma; three sons, Gary Davis and wife, Xuan, of Idaho, Michael Sturdee and wife, Joyce, of Hermon, Mitchell Sturdee and wife, Kathy, of New York; one grandson, Russell; five granddaughters, Terri, Jennifer, Jessica, Katie, Tasha; three great-grandsons, George, Trenton and Tyler; and one great-granddaughter, Bailey. We would like to thank the Island Nursing Home of Deer Isle and the Blue Hill Hospital for the wonderful care and kindness given by the staff. Viewing hours will be 12-2 p.m. Oct. 19, 2004, at Bragdon- Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, Stonington, with a funeral service at 2 p.m. with the Rev. George Springer officiating.
