BANGOR and ORONO Frederic A. Haley, 81, husband of the late Eleanor B. ‘Pat’ Haley, died Dec. 15, 2007, at a Bangor nursing home. He was born Sept. 26, 1926, in Searsport, the son of Leroy A. and Janie (Girvan) Haley. Fred lived in Hampden and LaGrange before graduating from Thomaston High School. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he served in the Pacific theater and was scheduled for the possible invasion of Japan. While serving at Fort Dix, N.J., he met and married his wife, Pat, before settling in Bensalem, Pa. He and his wife moved to Orono in 1972, where he owned and operated Appliance Service Co., for 20 years. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Bangor, American Legion, Post No. 84, Orono and Norman Dow VFW, Post No. 1761, Bangor. He was also a member of Orono/Old Town Kiwanis Club and Gould’s Landing Volunteer Fire Department, Orono. He is survived by his three children and their families, Paul Haley and his wife, Donna, of Orono, Pamela Ziemba and her husband, John, of Reading, Pa., and Allen Haley and his wife, Jonel, of Frederick, Md.; and two grandsons, David Peirce his wife, Lynn, and their children of Orono and Shon Patric Haley of Frederick, Md. He is also survived by one brother, Donald F. Haley and his wife, Eleanor, of Quincy, Mass.; three sisters-in-law, Sandra Haley of Milo, Edna Haley of Stratford, Conn., and Rosalie Railer of Edgewood, Md.; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, Fred was predeceased by three brothers and two sisters. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 540 Essex St., Bangor, with the Rev. Elaine Hewes, pastor, presiding. Private internment will be at the Maine Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Augusta.
