WASHBURN and CARIBOU – Frederick D. Jacobs, 80, died April 26, 2006, at a Zephyrhills, Fla. hospital. He was born July 27, 1925, in Washburn, the son of Idell and Jessie (Wood) Jacobs. He served with the 11th Airborne Parachute Infantry Div during World War II. After the war, he returned to Washburn, where he farmed for more than 42 years. Mr. Jacobs was an active member of the Caribou United Baptist Church. After his retirement from farming, Fred spent his winters in Florida. Fred loved sports and was an avid golfer. He is survived by his wife, Roberta (Wardwell) Jacobs of Washburn and Zephyrhills Fla.; a son, Brian Jacobs of St. Augustine, Fla.; his daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Loren White of Holden, Dianna Jacobs of Franklin, Tenn., and Brenda Lee and Edward Leslie of South Casco; 10 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Jacobs was predeceased by a son, Wayne. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir St., Caribou. Private graveside services will be held at the Northern Maine Veterans Cemetery, Caribou with the Rev. John Kiehn officiating.
