HAMPDEN and KITTERY Frederick G. Farley, 80, passed away Oct. 29, 2007, after a brief illness. Fred was born Dec. 5, 1926, in Bristol, Conn., to Alexander “Granville” and Dorothy (Horton) Farley. Fred moved to Kittery when he was 14. Fred graduated from Traip Academy and worked at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard during the closing years of World War II. He was a graduate of Keene State College, New Hampshire, and the University of Hartford, Connecticut. He taught industrial arts and vocational education in Bristol and Southington, Conn., until his retirement in 1983. Fred retired to Kittery, where he enjoyed his garden and wood shop, but most of all his friends. He was a member of Lions International and especially enjoyed working on the club building, can collection and Christmas tree sales. He was a long time member of Middle Street Baptist Church, Portsmouth, N.H., serving the church as trustee and deacon. Fred was predeceased by his beloved wife of more than 50 years, Ellen (Stoddard) Farley. After her death, he volunteered at the Harbor Home of York and at other nursing homes where he could bring comfort and cheer. He is survived by his son, Charles and daughter-in-law, Joan, with whom he lived the last two years of his life; his brother and sister-in-law, James and Lil; nephews, James, John and Joel; and a niece, Lizbeth. A celebration of Fred’s life will be held 3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, at West Hampden Baptist Church, 574 Western Ave., Hampden, with the Rev. Harold Lovestrand officiating.
