PITTSFIELD – Dorothy Moon Glazier, 88, died Oct. 28, 2007, at Sanfield Rehabilitation and Living Center. She was born July 24, 1919, in the town of Surry, to the late Orma and Amanda H. Stevens. On Oct. 21, 1935, she was united in marriage to Harvard O. Moon of Ellsworth. In 1945 they moved to Pittsfield. After Harvard’s death in 1959, Dorothy remained in Pittsfield until she married Earl Glazier, Nov. 25, 1965, and moved to Fair-field. Dorothy and Earl spent eight winters in Lakeland, Fla., and enjoyed spending summers at their camp on Morrill Pond, Hartland. In September 1992 Earl and Dorothy moved back to Pittsfield. After Earl’s death in 1995, Dorothy continued to live in Pittsfield until she was admitted to Sanfield Rehabilitation and Living Center, Hartland, December 2006. Dorothy was a hard worker throughout her life. When her children were small she helped to supplement the family income by picking vegetables and berries at local farms. She also worked as a waitress at Dan’s lunch, Pittsfield. For many years she worked as a stitcher at Northeast Shoe, Pittsfield and at Medway Shoe, Skowhegan. Dorothy was a good friend and neighbor, and was always ready to give a helping hand to those in need. After moving to Fairfield, she graduated from a nurse’s aide course given at Thayer Hospital, Waterville and worked for several years as a nurse’s aide. She also did private duty as a personal care assistant in both Waterville and Florida. Dorothy was a member of First Baptist Church, Pittsfield and Fairfield. She was a member of the Fidalis Club at First Baptist Church, Pittsfield, and taught Sunday school for many years. She was a long time choir member at both churches. Dorothy was very active in community groups. She was a member of the Sebasticook Club, Pittsfield, for 60 years, and served as president of the club several times. She was a member of the Cheer-A-Bit Club, the Burnham Extension, Arbutas Grange, Surry and Pittsfield Grange. She was a member of Goodwill Rebecca Lodge, Fairfield and Noble Grange, Fairfield, as well as the ACNE Rebecca Lodge, Clinton. She enjoyed square dancing and was a member of the Heart of Maine Square Dance Club for many years as well as the National Square Dance Campers of Maine. Dorothy had many interests and hobbies. She enjoyed sewing and other crafts. For many years she made Raggedy Ann and Andy Dolls, which she gave to all of her children and grandchildren. She loved spend-ing time at her camp at Morrill Pond, camping with friends and traveling in her truck camper. One of her favorite memories was the annual family camping trip to Hermit Island in Small Point on Memorial weekend. Dorothy is survived by her four children, Barbara M. Hart and husband, Raymond, of Pittsfield, Charles R. Moon and wife, Linda, of Pittsfield, Colby F. Moon and wife, Alicia, of Pittsfield and Marjorie Downs and husband, Carroll, of Newport; two stepchildren, Freddy Glazier and wife, Shirley, of Canaan and Anne Penland and husband, Bruce, of North Ogden, Utah; 12 grandchildren, nine stepgrandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, Dorothy was predeceased by her husbands, Harvard O. Moon and Earl Glazier; by her son, John H. Moon, who died as an infant; her grandson, Kevin Hart; five brothers, Morris, Russell, Irving, Harold and Omar Stevens; and two sisters, Betty Hanscom and Ruth Wyman. The family thanks the staff at Sanfield Rehabilitation and Living Center for the excellent care provided to Dorothy. A memorial service to celebrate the life of Dorothy Moon Glazier will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, at Shorey-Nichols Funeral Home, 191 Hartland Ave., Pittsfield. Pastor Albert Worden of High Street Congregational Church, Newport will officiate. Burial will be at Woodbine Cemetery, Ells-worth. Family and friends are invited for visitation 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, at Shorey-Nichols Funeral Home. A reception will be held after the memorial service at Pittsfield Masonic Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given in her memory to the activities fund at Sanfield Rehabilitation and Living Center, care of Lynda Smart, P.O. Box 489, Hartland, ME 04953. Arrangements are entrusted to Shorey-Nichols Funeral Home, 191 Hartland Ave., Pittsfield.
