PRESQUE ISLE – To announce the passing of Mike Roberts, born Frederick Parkhurst Roberts, born Aug. 23, 1920, the son of George Fred Roberts and Lillian Ella Thomas of Fort Kent. Mike served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a radio mechanic, attaining the rank of staff sergeant. On his return to Presque Isle, he married Patricia Shaw. Mike and his brother, Earl ran Roberts Market for more than 30 years, also during that time he was a member of the Presque Isle “Barbershoppers.” On Sunday, Jan. 8, 2006, Fred Roberts died at home peacefully, in his sleep. He is survived by his sister, Jessie Mae “Teddy” Roberts Nelson; his nieces, Dolores Hutchins, Jessica McClintock, Bonnie Nelson, Chance Dupery; and his six children, Michael, Lillie, Leslie, Lisa, Beth, John, as well as 11 grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brothers, Lew, Glen, Earle, as well as his sister, Verna Hedrich. He was a naturalist who loved Maine, photography, trains, books, and sharing all with his loved ones. His joy of living was an inspiration to all, he was generous and quick with a laugh, a kind word and a smile. He loved music, he loved to sing and he was a great dancer. We will miss you sweety pie. Friends are invited to share their memories of Mike, 5-7 p.m. Friday at the Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle. A memorial service will take place at a later date.
