CARIBOU and NEW SWEDEN – Frederick Norbeck, 67, lieutenant col-onel U.S. Army retired, died March 29, 2007, at the Maine Veterans’ Home, Caribou. He was born Sept. 9, 1939, in Caribou, the son of Chester and Ruth (Dickinson) Norbeck. Mr. Norbeck entered the U.S. Army in 1957, served during Vietnam, retiring as a lieutenant colonel after many years of service to his country. He received numerous citations and awards, including the Combat Infantry Award, the Army Commendation Medal, the Vietnam Gallantry Cross and many others. After his retirement, Mr. Norbeck was a self-employed accountant in the Caribou area for many years. He was a member of the Lister Knowlton Post No. 9389 VFW, as well as the Gustaf Adolph Lutheran Church, New Sweden. He is survived by his mother, Ruth Norbeck of Caribou; one son, Michael Norbeck; and one daughter, Jade Norbeck, both of Presque Isle; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Rita and Harold Adams of Caribou and Glennis Wheeler of Southington, Conn., and Marlene and Jeffrey Durepo of Limestone, many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father; and a daughter, Debbie Norbeck. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir St., Caribou, with evening military services being held 6 p.m. by the officers and members of the VFW. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, April 2, from the chapel of Mockler Funeral Home with the Rev. James Morgan, pastor, officiating. Spring interment will take place at the Maine Veterans’ Cemetery.
