OLD TOWN – Gail C. Brooks passed away May 20, 2008, surrounded by her loving family, after a brief and courageous battle with breast cancer. She was born April 18, 1949, in Lewiston, the daughter of Howard F. and Cecile Brown. Gail graduated from Orono High School and soon after became a loving wife and mother. She was best known for her beautiful hand caning and was well known for her special crafts. She was always busy with crafting and caring for all of her family. Gail is survived by her best friend and loving husband, James Brooks of Old Town; two daughters, who will miss her dearly, Tammy Patterson and her husband, Scott, of Bradley, and Celestia Brooks and her companion, Steven McLain, of Newburgh; four grandchildren, Kristian and Tyler Ellingwood, both of Bradley and Benjamin and Elizabeth Honnell of Old Town; her mother, Cecile Brown of Orono; two sisters, Diana Crowley and her husband, William, of Farmingdale and Deborah Carle of Old Town; brother, Gary Brown and his wife, Ruth, of Veazie; many special nieces, nephews and cousins; and too many dear friends to count. Gail’s family thanks everyone for the thoughts and prayers on their behalf. They recognize and extend their gratitude to the staff at Hospice of Eastern Maine, the staff at CancerCare of Maine and the Eastern Maine Medical Center oncology nurses. A celebration of Gail’s life will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, May 24, at Evergreen Cemetery, Bradley.
