HOULTON – Galen E. “Red” Corey, 70, husband of Annis Corey of Newington, Conn., passed away Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2007, at Avery Heights Medical Center, Hartford, Conn., after a courageous battle with cancer. He grew up in Houlton, and graduated from Houlton High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in Germany and in the United States. He was a longtime resident of Newington, Conn. Galen was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing and just being able to observe nature. He worked for several years in Newington, Conn., as a surveyor and later at the Lobsterman on the Berlin Turnpike. Galen appeared to have a gruff exterior, but was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to all that knew him. He always placed the welfare of others before himself and always lent a helping hand to everyone. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Kayleigh Mitterholzer of East Hartford, Conn.; two grandchildren, Ayla and Daniel of Missouri; a brother, Fred Corey and his wife, Kathi, of East Hartford, Conn.; sister-in-law, Velda Corey of Georgia; stepchildren, Kimberly Breton, Todd Breton, Wendy Kilis, Pam Cyr, Gregg Breton; and six stepgrandchildren; a special nephew, Fred Corey Jr. of Monticello; and several other nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Fred and Hilda Corey of Monticello; and his brother, Ronald Corey of Georgia. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be scheduled in the spring.
