COLUMBIA – Gary R. Dorr, 64, of Columbia, died unexpectedly Sunday, March 26, 2006, at his residence following a brief illness. He was born in Bangor, Feb. 15, 1942, the son of the late LaForest and Virginia (Kinghorn) Dorr. Mr. Dorr attended and graduated from school in Columbia. He joined the U.S. Navy serving his country for two years. He was a carpenter by trade while keeping an interest in the family blueberry farm in Columbia for many years. Upon the passing of his parents he became the sole owner of the farm. Mr. Dorr was a member of the local Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite Bodies of Portland, local Shriners and the Carpenter’s Union. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading and domestic and international travel. He was predeceased by a son, Gary Vernon Dorr in 1984; by a sister, Sharon D. Ward and her son, Scott Ward. He is survived by his two daughters, Sofia Dorr of Columbia and Sharon Palmeter of Fairfax, Va.; numerous close and dear cousins from the Kinghorn and Perry families, a cousin and friend, David Perry Sr.; and close friends, Buzz and Ann Norton, Mona Dorr, Judy Bradley, Chris Dorr, Thomas and Cheryl Worcester, and many other special friends. Graveside services will be held at the Columbia Cemetery, Columbia, 11 a.m. Friday, March 31. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Friends and family are welcome to gather at the Columbia Town Hall, immediately following the service.
