VEAZIE – George A. Cormier, 77, passed away April 4, 2008, due to a stroke, at an Orono health care facility. He was born Feb. 22, 1931, in Old Town, the son of Peter and Wilda Mary (Leveque) Cormier. George joined the musicians union at the age of 18. He had his own band and played with the Bangor Symphony Orchestra. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. George was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Orono, where he was the musical director for many years and also played in the folk group. George worked as a painter, dry wall installer and wallpaper installer thr-oughout his life. More then anything George’s real love was his music. George was a long and devoted member of Knights of Columbus. George was a 3rd Degree member Joseph Orono Council No. 152, 4th Degree member of Father Druillette Assembly No. 0364, Old Town/Orono, and was a past district deputy, financial secretary of the Orono Council and officer of the 3rd Degree Team. He will be fondly reme-mbered as “George the Clown” around Veazie and Orono. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Constance (LaChance) Cormier; four children, Annette, Richard, Donald and Karen; a sister, Noella Cor-mier; five grandchildren, Ryan, Michael, Shawn, Patrick and Gretchen; and one great-grand-son, Tavin Hodges-Burgess. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Joseph; and a sister, Corrine. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Wed-nesday, April 9, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 89 Main St., Orono, with the Rev. Thomas F. Farley, presiding, and with Knights of Columbus ushering and the 4th Degree Color Guard in attendance. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments in the parish hall after the service. Interment will be in the spring at Fairview Cemetery, Veazie.
