ELLSWORTH – George David Mahon, 80, passed away March 7, 2007, at a local hospital. He was born Dec. 18, 1926, in Ellsworth, the son of Henry and Elizabeth Mahon. He graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1945. George served in the U.S. Navy for two years during World War II. He served with the Ellsworth Police Department for seven and a half years, reaching the rank of lieutenant. He then joined the Bureau of Liquor Enforcement, where he served for 20 years retiring in 1980. After his retirement he worked for Hall’s Security and was a bail commissioner. George was a past member of the Ellsworth Lions Club. He is survived by one son, Jon Mahon and his wife, Michelle, their sons, Steven and Trent of Ellsworth; daughter-in-law, Kathy Garber and granddaughters, Christine and Casey of Brunswick; great-granddaughters, Haleigh and Katie; one sister, Mary Bryant of Ellsworth; sister-in-law, Eleanor Jones of Ellsworth; brother-in-law, Harry S. Jones III and his wife, Elaine, of Ellsworth; several aunts, uncles, nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his wife of 46 years, Harriet in 1994; a daughter, Mary Louise Mahon in 1997; a son, George David Mahon Jr. in 1985; a brother, Joseph Mahon in 2002. A visitation for family and friends will be 6-8 p.m. Friday, March 9, at Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, 215 Main St., Ellsworth. A private graveside service will be held in the spring.
