BANGOR – George Ezra Kelliher, 88, died peacefully July 25, 2008, surrounded by his loving family at a Bangor hospital. He was born April 3, 1920, in Bangor, the son of Albert E. and Inez R. (O’Leary) Kelliher. George served his country in World War II in the U.S. Marines, stationed in the South Pacific and China. He provided for his family by driving trucks in the local area for several trucking companies throughout his life. Using his hands to shape and work with wood was a passion and there are many handmade pieces of furniture that he gave to his family. George owned and later worked in a sawmill, where he enjoyed working with wood. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, and loved his time in the woods around Morrison Ponds and his favorite spot on top of Morrison Mountain. George enjoyed camping and riding on his four-wheeler. He was a much-loved husband, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather, and will be dearly missed by everyone who knew him, including his cats and dog. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Mary (Palmer) Kelliher; children, Robert G. Kelliher and wife, Ruth, of Corinth, Judy E. Jernigan of Winterport, Lloyd A. Kelliher and wife, Kim, of Alton and Allen D. Kelliher and wife, Liz, of Winterport; a sister, Ruth Troop of Norway; eight grandchildren, Keisha, Keith, Corey, Ericca, Gloria, David, Brenda, and Lewis; seven great-grandchildren, Camryn, Katlyn, Nicolas, Jordan, Rychel, Arich and Micah, “his buddy”; and many friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Charles A. Kelliher. Friends are invited to call 6-8 p.m. Monday, July 28, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 29, with Pastor Jeff Tenney, assistant pastor of Faith Bible Church, Olamon.
