MILBRIDGE – George Edward West, 86, passed away June 20, 2004, at his home in Milbridge. He was born Sept. 29, 1917, in Bangor, the son of the late John Edward and Mary Blanch (Glidden) West. After graduating high school, George joined the Army Signal Service and was employed in Company B, 3187th Battalion from May 21, 1942 to Dec. 4, 1945. Upon leaving the service, he became a carpenter and built homes in the Milbridge area until his retirement in 1973. His greatest loves in life were taking walks along the Narraguagus River with his dogs, planting his vegetable and flower gardens, picking berries and having his family visit. George was predeceased by his wife, Bernice, in 1995; and two brothers, Ernest and Uriah. He is survived by his children, Terry Moore of Bangor, Scott Moore and his wife, Rhonda, of Louisiana, Valerie Grant and her husband, Leon, of Brewer, Michael West Sr. and his wife, Lynn, of North Carolina, and George West of Milbridge; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, Harold West and his wife, Ramona, of Milbridge; several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, June 26, 2004, at the United Methodist Church, Wyman Road, Milbridge. Interment will take place immediately following the memorial service at Evergreen Cemetery, Milbridge. A reception is planned for family and friends at the home of Brenda Duggan on the Kansas Road, Milbridge. Cremation arrangements by Cremation Basics, Inc., Bangor.
