BANGOR – Ruth McCarthy, a very dear mother, grandmother and friend, died June 22, 2004, in Bangor. Ruth was born Aug. 23, 1919, the loving daughter of Edward Earl and Mary Finnigan Curran. Ruth loved Bangor and lived here her entire life. Ruth married Eugene McCarthy Feb. 23, 1946, and they spent 48 wonderful years together. Ruth was very loved by her daughter and son-in-law, Jeanne and Jack Brookings. Her memory will be treasured by her precious grandchildren and their families, Jennifer and Janson Chapman, Holly and Mike Colpitts and Jack Brookings and Erica Schweikert; and sweet great-granddaughter, Ella Jeanne Chapman. Ruth also leaves her dear sister, Annette Drew; her special nieces, Gayle Russell, Lynn Lasher and Diane White; nephew, Ned Drew; and all of her wonderful relatives from the McCarthy family and many fun friends. Ruth enjoyed being an ambassador for Bangor as the Director of the Publicity Bureau. She greeted visitors of the City for 22 years. Ruth also spent many years working for Smith’s Specialty Shop and graduated from Bangor High School in 1937. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Thursday, June 24, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday at St. John’s Catholic Church with the Very Rev. Richard McLaughlin, pastor, celebrant. Interment will be in Mount Pleasant Catholic Cemetery.
