SCARBOROUGH and MILLINOCKET – George F. Kelley, 79, beloved husband, father and “Papa,” died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2007, surrounded by his loving family, after a brief illness. He was born Nov. 13, 1928, in Stacyville, the youngest son of Charles and Ella (Rush) Kelley. He was a graduate of Sherman High School and went on to receive a degree in accounting from Husson College. He married his childhood sweetheart, best friend and love of his life, Corinne (McDonald) in 1950 and had 57 years of happiness. Together they raised five children. His family was his greatest joy and he devoted his life to making them happy. We all have fond memories of summers at Smith Pond with family and friends. He treasured his time with all his grandchildren, especially long talks, rides and shopping expeditions with his special buddy, Andrew. He was a conductor for the Bangor and Aroostook Railroad for 39 years, where he had many close friends. He also enjoyed delivering groceries to many families in the Millinocket area and running his bus service to Mattawamkeag and Mount Katahdin. Everyone will remember seeing him with a smile on his face and tickets in his pocket. He was a member of St. Martin of Tours parish in Millinocket and in recent years, Saint Maximillian Kolbe parish in Scarborough. He was a fourth degree member, past grand knight and district deputy of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 680. He will be remembered for the many special events he coordinated at the Knights of Columbus Hall. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Corinne; his five children, George Kelley Jr. and wife, Dayna, of Dyer Brook, Milly Snider and husband, Pete, of Milford, N.H., Tom Kelley and wife, Sandy, of Fort Myers, Fla., Sue Larkin and husband, Shawn, of Lewiston, and Karen Hopkins and husband, Scott, of Scarborough. He will be forever cherished by his nine grandchildren, Kelly, Andrea, Michael, Austin, Rachel, Jason, Andrew, Alyssa and Adrianna. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Giberson of Medway; his brothers, Charles Kelley Jr. of Bangor and James Kelley of Topsham; and many loving nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; his brother, Joe; and infant daughter, Theresa Jane. The family thanks the staff at Seal Rock Healthcare and Mercy Hospital for their support and tender care. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9, at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, Millinocket, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Monday with Father Joel Cyr, celebrant.
