FORT KENT – George Fournier, 83, died Feb. 7, 2005, at a Bangor hospital. He was born in Eagle Lake, July 11, 1921, the son of Thomas and Phoebe (Michaud) Fournier. George attended John Bapst High School in Bangor and in 1939, attended Hillyer College and the University of Hartford in Connecticut. He was a U.S. Army Infantry World War II veteran and served proudly in the South Pacific Theatre. He was a life member of the American Legion and a past member of the VFW. He was also a parishioner of the St. Louis Catholic Church and several other organizations. George worked as a postal worker in the West Hartford Post Office until retirement. He is survived by two sisters, Faustine Fogarty of Mystic, Conn. and Juanita Flanigan of Bloomfield, Conn., many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, Elmo, Dr. Reginald and Alfred Fournier; two sisters, Rose Marie Cushman and Gloria King. Friends may call at the Daigle & Nadeau Funeral Home, 4-6 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. until time of service on Saturday. A Mass of Christian Burial, with fully military honors will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday at the St. Louis Catholic Church in Fort Kent, with the Rev. Claude Gendreau officiating. Spring burial will be held, May 2005. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may donate to the University of Maine at Fort Kent; or a charity of their choice.
