HARRINGTON – George H. Frye, 80, died Feb. 4, 2004 unexpectedly at a Machias hospital. He was born Jan. 30, 1924, at Harrington, the son of Daniel and Grace (Burgess) Frye. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy as a Seabee in the Pacific Theater on Tinian, Saipan and Okinawa. He was a graduate of the Harrington High School Class of 1947. George was the owner and operator of Frye’s Exxon in Harrington for 27 years. He was a member and Past Master of the Tuscan Lodge No. 106 AF & AM in Addison. He was a member of the Wescogus Chapter of the O.E.S. in Addison until it merged with the Alcyone Chapter of the O.E.S. in Milbridge. He was a 58-year member of the American Legion Post No. 8 in Cherryfield. George was also a talented musician playing trumpet and bass horn for the Navy Band and the Cherryfield Band. He was a member of the Milbridge Square Dance Club. He attended the Harrington Baptist Church. George enjoyed sailing and antique cars especially Model T’s. In 2003, he received the Community Citizen Award from the Osceola Grange in Harrington. He served on various committees and was named moderator of the “Daily Post Office Town Meeting”. He had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh. He is survived by his wife of 52 years Evelyn Frye of Harrington; two children, Lee Frye of Fort Lauderdale, Fla. and Jane Keen and her husband, John, of Embden Lake; two grandchildren, Isaac of Solon and Lindsey of Bingham; one brother, Carlton Frye of Kittery; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one brother, Russell Frye in 1991. Friends are invited to visit with the family 6-8 p.m. Friday at Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell funeral Home, 47 Main St., Milbridge. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, 2004, at the Harrington Baptist Church, Harrington, with the Rev. Daniel Davis officiating. Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery, Harrington.
