MILLINOCKET and TAMPA, FLA. – George Henry “Buster” Martin Sr., beloved husband, father, and grandfather, died peacefully at Millinocket Regional Hospital, surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2004, at age 78. He was born in Millinocket, the son of Henry J. and May (Willette) Martin. George was a member of Stearns Class of 1943. He was employed by Great Northern Paper Company for 44 years, retiring in 1985 as day supervisor in the Finishing Department. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving in Northern Ireland during World War II. He earned the American Campaign Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, a member of the Donald V. Henry, American Legion. He was a communicant of St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church. Buster coached Little League baseball for many years and in 1966, he led the Millinocket Little League All Stars to the Maine state championship. Buster was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan. Playing cards was his favorite pastime. He especially loved entertaining his grandchildren. He enjoyed his retirement years wintering in Florida with his wife. He is survived by his beloved wife and sweetheart of 57 years, Geraldine Ann (Mackin) Martin and their children, Nancy and her husband, John G. Jamo, Marilyn Martin Brown, George H. Martin Jr., Stephen B. Martin, Paul M. Martin, Jayne Martin-Potvin and her companion, William Lewis, Mary Kathryn and her husband, Greg Marter, all of Millinocket, Paul of Tampa, Fla., Bettie Hicks Martin of Bingham. He is also survived by his 11 grandchildren, John Jamo and his wife, Michelle, of Millinocket, Nichole Jamo Pelletier and her husband, Andy, of Bangor, Jillian Jamo and her fianc_, Scott Cole of Ft. Myers, Fla., Tony Brown Jr. and his wife, Amy, of St. Albans, Martin Brown and his wife, Amy-Jo of Scarborough, Michael Martin of Bangor, Heather Potvin York and her husband, Jason, of Millinocket, Nicholas Potvin of Bangor, Rachael Potvin and her fianc_, Matt Pelletier, of Biddeford, Kirsten and Marissa Marter, of Millinocket; his 11 great-grand-children, Micah, Ethan, Noah, Seth, and John-Isaac Brown of St. Albans, Matthew Brown of Scarborough, Lillian Dow, Sophia Dow, Annabelle Pelletier of Bangor, Lauren Belle Jamo of Millinocket, Ayanna York of Millinocket; great-step-grandsons, Aaron Civiello and Nathan Pelletier; many nieces and nephews, whom he was very fond of. He leaves behind a special brother-in-law, Vaughn Mackin, brother-in-law, John Mackin and his wife, Mary; sisters-in-law, Marilyn (Mackin) Terrio and her husband, Benjamin, Mary Lou (Mackin) Corriveau and her husband, Rodney, Donna (Mackin) Cogswell, Linda Mackin and Barbara (Bouley) MacDonald and her husband, Raymond; brother-in-law, Robert Hallett and his wife, Sue. He leaves behind a favorite aunt, who was also his friend, Aldea Gallant. He was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Marlene (Martin) Hallett; his mother and father-in-law, Clarence B. and Lillian (Gaskin) Mackin; brothers-in-law, Clarence B. Mackin and Carroll J. Mackin. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004, at St. Martin of Tours, Millinocket. Friends and relatives are invited to call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 2, at R.L. Bouchard Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack St., Millinocket.
