WOODLAND – George Joseph McLaughlin Sr., 87, died Jan. 2, 2007, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Feb. 13, 1919, son of Henry and Maude (Wilkins) McLaughlin. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the European theatre. He retired from Georgia Pacific after 36 years and drove heavy equipment for Ralph Dorr and Dicenzo, after retiring. George spent many happy hours doing woodwork and making items for family members. He was predeceased by his sisters, Pearl, Margaret, Irene, Audrey, Florence, Gertrude and Grace; brothers, Lloyd, Laurence, Clifford, William Sr. and David. George is survived by his beloved wife of 63 happy years, Althea (Howland) McLaughlin; sons, George Jr. “Butch” and wife, Linda, James and wife, Vicki; daughter, Laurie McLaughlin; sister, Ethel Bouchard; sisters-in-law, Arlene, Rita, Grace; grandchildren, Melinda, David and Hanna, Jamie and Stacy, Jeffrey and Sarah, John and Chad; eight great-grand-children, Jeremy, Michael, Kacie, Adam, Lucas, Natashia, Emma and Kay Lee; many special nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, at the United Methodist Church, Baileyville, with the Rev. Bernard Hammond officiating. Those who wish may make donations in George’s memory to a charity of your choice. Arrangements are under the care of Direct Cremation of Maine, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast.
