EDINBURG – Layzime James “Buster” Theriault, passed away peacefully Jan. 3, 2007, with his family and friends by his side, at his home. He was born Sept. 5, 1924, in West Enfield, the son of the Layzime James Sr. and Emily (Moreau) Theriault. In pappy’s 82 years and four months, he did many things that many of us will never have the chance to do. He grew up in Howland, on “the hill,” and spent many days hunting and fishing in the surrounding areas. He enjoyed playing football at Howland High School and decided to leave high school when they cut the football program. In 1943, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, which he proudly served in for two and a half years. He was awarded with a Purple Heart for being wounded in World War II, after the invasion of Omaha Beach. He returned to active duty and fought at the bridge at Remagen and the Battle of the Bulge. He was a life member of the American Legion and the VFW. In June 1943, pappy married Fredrica Helen Gillespie. After his years in the Army, pappy was a woodsman, employed as a bush pilot for Holts Flying Service and Thanny Coffin, Portage, and flew clients to and from the many lakes in the north Maine woods. He worked for 30 years, as an Ironworker for Local 496 and over those many years, touched many lives in many ways. Pappy was an incredible man that gave so much of himself to all that knew him. He was generous with his time, donations and love. He was responsible for many gatherings with family and friends in many states across the U.S. He organized many family trips both near and far, to the hunting camp, West Lake, and Florida, reunions with his Army buddies from all over the U.S., golfing at many golf courses with many family, friends and strangers all over the U.S., and many other events that he attended because of his love for so many that he knew. We will never forget the many Theriault Family reunions at West Lake, where many of us were crowned West Lake Horse Shoe Champions. Pappy was predeceased by his 25-year-old son, Lt. James Lawrence Theriault; his wife of 54 years, Freddie; and four sisters, Joann, Mildred, Pauline and Grace. He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Terrance N. and Susie Theriault and Reginald K. and Raymonde Theriault; grandchildren, Nycole and Kevin Mc-Glauflin, Corey Theriault and Lee Theriault; six great-grand-children that he adored, Parker, Karagan, Austin, Camren, Bradley and Madyson; his siblings, Reginald E. Theriault, Nancy Harris, Lorraine Knowlton, Dolly Vanadestine and her husband, Herbie; and sister-in-law, Phyllis Shorey. He also had many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that knew of the special person that pappy was to all that he met. He also leaves, Dale Sereyko, who Buster always thought of as another son. Family and friends may call 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 5, at Clay Funeral Home, Lincoln. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, at St. Leo Catholic Church, Howland, with the Rev. Leroy Landry presiding. Spring interment will be at St. Matthew’s Cemetery, West Enfield. In lieu of flowers, pappy would like donations made to the St. Leo the Great Parish fund for the Shrine of Our Lady of the Eucharist, which he helped to construct in honor of his late wife, Fredrica.
