OLD TOWN – George K. Drake Jr., 68, died in Zephyrhills, Fla., Jan. 12, 2004, after a long illness. He was born Aug. 20, 1935, in Old Town, the son of George Sr. and Etta (Young) Drake. George was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving from 1959 to 1962. He was the plant manager and dedicated employee for more than 40 years at Lane Construction in Calais. He will be remembered for his joking manner, his love for hunting and passion for deer stories. He was a member of the Star in the East Lodge No. 60 AF & AM of Old Town, Anah Shriners of Bangor and MBTA. He is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Mary Ann (Young) Drake; two children, Gregory C. Drake and his wife, Jennifer, of New Canton, Va., Catherine and her husband, James Gildart, of Corinth, N.Y.; beloved, cherished and devoted grandfather of seven grandchildren, Christina Drake of St. Stephen, New Brunswick, Jason Drake of Bangor, Jessica and Michael Drake of Calais, Kayla, Alexandra and Moriah Gildart of Corinth, N.Y.; great-granddaughter, Malika Drake of St. Stephen, New Brunswick; three sisters, Etta and her husband, Erwin Hodsdon of Minot, Mrs. Ralph (Madeline) Dutton of Old Town, and Mrs. Wendall (Mary) Ellis of Alton; many special loved and devoted nieces and nephews in Maine, Carolina, and Vermont. He will be sadly missed by all his relatives, friends and co-workers. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, June 7, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, with the Rev. Vinal Thomas and Rev. Louis Philbrook officiating. Interment will be at Maple Grove Cemetery, Old Town. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Municipal Building, Bennoch Road, Alton, following the services. Gifts in his memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
