GLOUCESTER, Mass. – George M. “Mickey” McNeil Sr., 86, died Sunday, Oct. 10, 2004. He was the husband of the Rev. Ardis Mayo-McNeil. Born May 30, 1918, in Roxbury, he was the son of the late Stephen McNeil Sr. and Margaret (Nash) McNeil. He attended John Bapst High School in Bangor and worked in local shoe shops for several years, before joining the Maine National Guard. He had resided in Bangor for many years before moving to Gloucester four years ago. Mr. McNeil went on to serve in the U.S. Air Force for 30 years. During World War II, he served as a medical technician and was a recipient of the Bronze Star. He was honorably discharged in December, 1972. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Disabled American Veterans and the National Guard Maniacs Club of Bangor. He was also a member of the Gloucester United Methodist Church and former member of St. Mary’s Parish in Bangor. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Sue Ann Osgood of Bangor and Julie Mitchell of Conroe, Texas; five sons, Danny McNeil of Lewiston, James McNeil of Cirellos, N.M., Richard McNeil of Calif., George McNeil Jr. of Washington, Joseph McNeil of Florida; two stepsons, Andrew Polk of Old Town, and Jeremy Polk of Bangor; a brother, Stephen McNeil Jr. of West Haven, Conn.; four sisters, Elizabeth Lentini of Cheshire, Conn., Sally McNeil of Portland, Margaret Lafontaine of Brewer and Catherine Fessenden of Bangor; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by a son, Lawrence McNeil; five sisters, Clara Mae McNeil, Mabel McNeil, Patricia Morneault, Mary Stuart and Joanne Pullen; and three brothers, Edward, John and Gordon McNeil. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday in the Gloucester United Methodist Church, Gloucester, Mass.
