VASSALBORO – George M. Young, 79, died Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2006. He was born April 2, 1926, in Sangerville, to James and Mary (Hall) Moore. George grew up in Dixmont, the adopted son of Edgar “George” and Velora E. Young. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and received several decorations and citations. George is survived by eight children, Sandra Young of Brunswick, Virginia Dudley of Brunswick, Sherry Trembley of Brunswick, Lisa Bumgardner of Bath, Cynthia Smearer of Waldo, Wendy Merry of Smithfield, Gregory Thompson of Waldo and Tracy Thompson of Vassalboro; eight grandchildren, Bree, James, Kricket, Amber, Haley, Janelle, Harley and Grant; two great-grandchildren; and sisters, Beulah Dennis of Unity and Francis Stone of Dixmont. In addition to his parents, the love of George’s life, Lucille Thompson; his sisters, Ardis Stone and Edith Boyle; and brother, James Moore, predeceased George. A graveside service will be held in the spring at the Paul Cemetery in Waldo. In honor of George donations may be made to the American Lung Association and local animal shelters.
