GARDINER – George McLaughlin, 78, of High Street, Gardiner, died Sunday, Dec. 12, 2004, at his home. He was born April 2, 1926, in Pittston a son of Arnold and Edith Peaslee McLaughlin. George was a graduate of Gardiner High School, Class of 1944, Kennebec School of Commerce in 1948. He also attended the University of Maine at Augusta where he received his realtor and appraiser license. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II serving under General Patten. He was a member, High priest and Bishop of the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saint Church in Farmingdale where he was noted for his missionary work. He was baptized Sept 23, 1951 and was sealed Oct 3, 1955, at the Logan temple in Logan, Utah with his wife and three children. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Karline Sherman McLaughlin of Gardiner; eight children, Mary Magee of Lewiston, George E. McLaughlin of Jenison, Mich., Bruce McLaughlin of Albuquerque, N.M., Andrew S. McLaughlin of Augusta, Lori M. McKinney of Rio Rancho, N.M., Matthew M. McLaughlin of Hamden, Nathan A. McLaughlin of Palm Coast, Fla., Ellen L. Bealand of Randolph; two brothers, Joseph McLaughlin of Randolph, John McLaughlin of Chelsea; four sisters, Eva Benson of Milford, Alice Wing of Landy Lake, Fla., Shirley Miller of Missouri, Dorothy Michaud of Augusta; 29 grandchildren, 30 great- grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Visiting hours will be held 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, at Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Avenue, Gardiner. Funeral services will be held 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, at the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saint, Hasson Street, Farmingdale. Spring burial will be in the family lot in Libby Hill Cemetery, Gardiner.
