RESTON, Va. – George Merlin Gallagher, 76, died Monday, Feb. 7, 2005, at Fair Oaks Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Melitta A. Gallagher nee Hetzl; daughter, Sheri Gould and her husband, Dan, of Buffalo, Wyo.; son, Daniel Gallagher and his wife, Jane, of Marbury Md.; sisters, Betty Cox of Florida and Lorine Caldwell of Sherman Mills. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Leandra Peterson, Gabriel Gallagher, Adam and Amy Gould; and two great-grandchildren, Jacob and Sophia Gallagher. Col. Gallagher served as the National Adjutant General for the Military Order of the Purple Heart, Commander and Legislative Officer for the Department of Virginia Purple Heart, and as Commander, Greater Washington Chapter 353 of Purple Heart. He was also a member of the American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, as well as the U.S. Forces in Austria Veterans Association. Family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 12, 2005, at Adams-Green Funeral Home, 721 Elden St., Herndon, Va. Funeral Services with full military honors will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, March 24, 2005, at Fort Myer Old Post Chapel. Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery.
