STOCKTON SPRINGS – George N. Harriman Sr., 83, died Jan. 28, 2005, at his daughter’s residence in Winterport, surrounded by his family. He was born May 26, 1921, at Stockton Springs, the son of Willard and Olive Tootills Harriman. He attended schools at Stockton Springs. George worked most of his life on construction and had been a bus driver in Bath during the war. He was an avid Red Sox fan and enjoyed playing cards with his friends. George loved his family, and his grandchildren were a large part of his life. He was a former member of the Eagles at Bath and the Bangor Labor Union No.1377. He was predeceased by three brothers, Willard, Richard and Philip; two sisters, Ester Cushman and Isabelle Harriman. George is survived by his wife of 64 years, Vivian Harriman of Stockton Springs; seven children, Lillian Thurston of Veazie, Mary Ann Sargent of Florida, George Harriman Jr. and his wife, Mary Ann, of Prospect, Judith Largay and her husband, John, of Portsmouth N.H., Gerald Harriman of Stockton Springs, Gloria Basford and her husband, Adrian, of Winterport; two brothers, Sterling and Rodney Harriman, both of Stockton Springs; one sister, Laura Harriman also of Stockton Springs; 15 grandchildren, Bridgette Harvey, Susan Lounsbury, Ralph Robbins, Sonja Robbins, Alison Weeks, Travis Harriman, Tracy Gray, Walter Bobson, Jill Pooler, Julie Rooney, Gerald Harriman Jr., Kari and Craig Harriman, Jennifer Cyr, Amy Basford; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter. He will be especially missed by his dedicated and loyal friend Gary Larrabee. To his family he leaves his sense of humor, his generosity to all in need and his joy of living. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 31, at the Rackliffe Funeral Home, 54 Church St., Belfast, with the Rev. Arthur Cotton officiating. Burial will be in the family lot at the Mt. Prospect Cemetery in Stockton Springs in the spring. Friends may call at the funeral home 2-4 p.m. Sunday evening. Friends may donate to The Stockton Springs Community Church in his memory.
