BREWER and ORRINGTON – George “Rocky” Sekera, 87, husband of the late Elizabeth “Betty” (Boulter) Sekera, died Jan. 21, 2006, at a Bangor hospital. He was born March 28, 1918, in Vintondale, Pa., son of Vasil and Katherine Sekera. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Rocky was employed in the coal mines in Pennsylvania, Getchell Brothers Ice Company, Eastern Fine Paper Company, both of Brewer and for many years by the Bangor Roofing and Sheet Metal Company. He was a member of St. Teresa Catholic Church of South Brewer for 57 years. He had enjoyed his years at Springy Pond and wintering in Florida. He loved entertaining his grandchildren with his harmonica and anyone who would listen and enjoyed cards, especially cribbage. Surviving are three children, Joseph W. Sekera and his wife, Marie, Robert G. Sekera, all of Eddington, Margaret A. Whitcomb and her husband, Stephen, of Newburgh; grandchildren, J. Todd Sekera and his wife, Jill, Nichole M. Sekera and Gabe, Andrew C. Sekera, Kimberly N. Seaman and Jayson, Jennifer E. Sekera, Elizabeth R. Sekera and Ericka, Kristen A. Sekera, Meghan A. Sekera and Michael A. Sekera; three great-grandchildren, Gabrielle, Eliot and Luke; three sisters, Anna Beechan and Helen Beechan, both of Pennsylvania and Evelyn Skowronski and her husband, John, of New York; nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, Betty, he was predeceased by a daughter-in-law, Mary Jo (Kelly) Sekera; five brothers, Michael, Charles, Peter, Nicholas and John Sekera; two sisters, Mary and Jane. Friends are welcome to call 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24, at Brookings-Smith, Clark-Piper Chapel, 55 South Main St., Brewer. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25, at St. Teresa Catholic Church, South Brewer. Spring interment will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Winterport.
