ELLSWORTH – George S. Decker Jr., 90, died Tuesday, July 20, 2004, at the Maine Veterans Home in Augusta. He was born Sept. 15, 1913, in Malden, Mass., the son of George and Mary (Latta) Decker. George grew up in Cutler, and graduated from Washington academy, Class of 1931. During World War II, he served in the 47th Repair Squadron of the Army Air Corps, taking part in the China, Burma, and India Campaign from 1944-46. For many years, George worked for several hotels, including the Bangor House, the Hotel Northampton, and the Parker House in Boston. He also worked for Albert Richards Co. in Boston, buying and then selling meats and frozen foods to hotels, restaurants, hospitals, and schools. After retiring, George returned to his beloved Maine, settling in Ellsworth, where he worked part-time at Doug’s Shop ‘n Save for several years. He enjoyed his retirement years, traveling on many cruises with his wife, Molly (Franklin) Decker. In 1993, Molly passed away three months short of their 50th wedding anniversary. George was a 50-year member of the Little River Lodge, AF & AM in Cutler. George was a true “old time” gentleman, with the gift of gab. He made many special friends in life and will be missed by all who knew him. George is survived by his son, John Decker and his wife, Patricia, of Gardiner; and a granddaughter, Janet Lyn Decker of Leadville, Colo. Friends are invited to visit with the family 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, 215 Main St., Ellsworth, where funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday. Graveside committal services will be held 1:30 p.m. at the New Cutler Cemetery, Cutler.
