TOWNSHIP 21 – George S. Kneeland, 84, passed away quietly July 17, 2007, at his home. He was born Oct. 1, 1922, the son of Ralph and Sarah Dodge Kneeland. He worked as a lumberjack with his horse, Prince, until he retired in 1982. George was a veteran of World War II, where he served as a member of an anti-aircraft crew with the 3rd Armored Division, 486 AA Battalion. He landed with the second wave of soldiers in Normandy and also saw action at the Battle of the Bulge, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. On Nov. 25, 1945, George married Rena MacArthur of Alexander. He was predeceased by his parents; two brothers, Alfred and Harvey Ingersoll; and two sisters, Marie Gillmor and Alberta Corbett. He is survived by his wife of 61 years; two daughters, Jeanette and Orland Dwelley of Township 21 and Gertrude and David Black-well of Port Neches, Texas; one son, George L. Kneeland of Princeton; two grandsons, John and Jo-Ann McGovern of Baileyville and Michael and Jennifer McGovern of Eddington; one granddaughter, Jacqueline Hurst of California; 10 great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews; and his beloved black Lab companion, Little Boy. It was George’s wish to be cremated and by his request, there will be no viewing. A memorial service and reception will be held 2 p.m. Aug. 11, at the Princeton Rod & Gun Club. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your favorite charity. A cremation by Washington County Cremation Center, Calais.
