FRANKLIN – Georgette “Jette” Grace Openshaw, 95, died Tuesday, April 24, 2007, surrounded by her family, at an Ellsworth health care facility. She was born Jan. 14, 1912, in Amesbury, Mass., the daughter of the late Alphonse and Grace (Vincent) Daigle. Jette enjoyed raising her family and caring for as many others as she could in her lifetime. She was a life member of the VFW Auxiliary and member of the Catholic Golden Age Women’s Club. She loved to knit and crochet hats, mittens and afghans for family and friends. She enjoyed playing the card game 83 on Thursdays at the Veterans Club in Franklin, but most of all she enjoyed her home at Georges Pond and spending time with her special friends, Pat, Caroline and Flo. She was the wife of the late Edward Leroy Openshaw Sr., who died in 1961. Family members include her children, George L. Openshaw and special companion, Elizabeth Lonergan, of Cherryfield, Edward Leroy Openshaw Jr. and wife, Ellen, of Bar Harbor and Sidney T. Openshaw of Franklin; daughters-in-law, Joyce Openshaw of New Jersey and Marie Openshaw of North Carolina; 13 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, 11 great-great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by two sons, Lewis R. Openshaw and Albert R. Openshaw; daughter-in-law, Marguerite Openshaw; three brothers and a sister. There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Friday, April 27, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Ellsworth, after which there will be a brief graveside service at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Ellsworth. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to join the family afterwards at the parish hall.
