ELLSWORTH – Georgia M. Raymond, 81, died July 30, 2005, in Ellsworth. She was born Sept. 9, 1923, in Bangor, the daughter of Leslie E. and Iva N. (Grindle) McCrae. Georgia enjoyed her life and varied experiences. At 18, soon after graduation from Ellsworth High School in 1941, she and friends went to work for the Department of the Adjutant General, and was one of the first staff members to move into the then under-construction Pentagon. She returned home and married John E. Raymond in Ellsworth, on Nov. 10, 1945. Together they owned and operated M A Clark florist for over 30 years. Georgia was an astute and determined businesswoman, successfully managing M A Clark until her retirement in 1978. She was involved in her community her entire life, supporting local clubs and events. Georgia was an experienced and ambitious traveler, constantly in search of adventure and good food. Many trips throughout the U.S. and Canada, a home in Bimini, extensive travel in Europe and the Far East and a trip 1000 miles up the Amazon were among her favorites. At the center of Georgia’s life were her family and friends. Married to John for almost 60 years, she was his best friend, business partner, traveling companion, organizer and listener. The stories she has heard! Georgia and John were inseparable. They finished each other’s sentences. Georgia’s light but determined optimism would gain her the final word on any decision, and she was always right. To her three boys she was the ever patient source of strength, wisdom and love, finally getting what she wanted, though it took a while. Her grandchildren were her special pleasure – showered with love and affection. To her friends she was true, sincere and gracious – a friend always. Georgia is survived by her beloved husband of 59 years, John; three sons, Jeff Raymond and wife, Roberta, John E. “Jack” Raymond, all of Trenton, and Joel E. Raymond of Ellsworth; grandchildren, Faith, Joshua, Jake and Annie Raymond and Torrie Round; and great-granddaughter, Jasper Round.
