CARMEL – Georgia Smen died unexpectedly July 22, 2008. She was born Georgia Vardamis, in Norwich, Conn. She moved to Bangor as a child, and became a lifelong resident of both Bangor and Carmel. She was a tireless worker at Stillwater Healthcare’s kitchen, where she brought joy to the patients and staff before retiring. She was known for her generosity and compassion for everyone she met. Her jovial personality and positive outlook was infectious. Her love of nature, flower gardens, pets and beloved home, is what she cherished. She was also an avid Red Sox fan. Her main goal was to bring undying love and happiness to her family, who miss her greatly. She is survived by her loving and loyal husband, Anthony Smen; two loving sons, Daniel Monaghan of Carmel and Timothy Monaghan of New York City; loving grandson, Jesse Monaghan of Bangor; several stepchildren, Mike, Greg and Terry Smen of Bangor, and Anthony Smen Jr. of Corinth; one brother, the last of eight siblings, Fred Vardamis of Bangor; several nieces and nephews. She now rests with God. We love and miss you. Relatives and friends are welcome to call 2-4 p.m. Sunday, July 27, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, July 28, with the Rev. Dr. Rex Garrett, director of chaplaincy services at Eastern Maine Medical Center, officiating. Internment will be after at Highland Cemetery, Carmel.
