DETROIT – Gerald “Jake” K. Sedgwick, 72, a resident North Road, died Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2006, at a Bangor hospital after a sudden illness. He was born Jan. 24, 1934, in Strong, the son of Kenneth and Mamie (Reed) Sedgwick. He graduated from Maine Central Institute, Pittsfield, Class of 1952 and served his country in the U.S. Army during Korea. He was employed by North East Shoe as a hand sewer for many years and later worked for Dexter Shoe, where he retired. He enjoyed bowling, harness racing, gardening, feeding the birds and working on lawn mowers. Jake is predeceased by his parents; two sisters, Patricia Sedgwick and Constance Humphrey. He is survived by his wife, Janet Sedgwick of Detroit; three sons, Robert Sedgwick and Michael of Stetson, Roger and his wife, Avian, Sedgwick of Newport, Dwayne and Cathy Goodblood of Exeter; two daughters, Robin Ryder and Chris of Stetson, Kathie Goodblood and her husband, Gerald Stanley, M.D., of Franklin, Pa.; two grandsons, Mathew Goodblood of Corinna and William Brown of Stetson; two granddaughters, Gabraella and Dakota Ryder of Stetson; three sisters, Shirley Pease of Harmony, Carole and Wendell Dennison of Winterport and Sharon Clarke of Plymouth; nieces, nephews and cousins; his two cats, Sam and Bahama. Visiting hours will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 21, at Donald H. Shorey Funeral Chapel, 35 Hartland Ave., Pittsfield. A memorial service will be held 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 21, at the chapel. The family would like to invite friends to attend a gathering in Jake’s memory immediately after the service at the Detroit Town Hall. In lieu of flowers, friends may make memorial contributions to The Bangor Humane Society, 693 Mount Hope Ave., Bangor, ME 04401. Arrangements are entrusted to Donald H. Shorey Funeral Chapel, Pittsfield.
