GERALD LEROY HARRIS PRESQUE ISLE – Gerald L. Harris, 72, died Dec. 30, 2003, at a Caribou hospital. He was born Aug. 4, 1931, in Presque Isle, the son of William A. and Grace M. (Norsworthy) Harris. He was a graduate of Presque Isle High School. He was a member of the Full Gospel Assembly in Presque Isle. Gerald served in the U.S. Navy and the Naval Sea Cadets and also served in the National Guards for 16 years and was a member of Ray Goding Post No. 88, American Legion. Gerald had been employed by the U.S. Postal service retiring after 37 years. During his 37 years he served as NALC president, vice president, secretary and shop steward and HBR. He was also a member of the APWU, where he served as president, vice president, shop steward. He was a reserve police officer for Modesto, Calif. Gerald did a lot of volunteer work. He was a director of the Awana program for Central Baptist Church in Modesto, Calif., where he taught Sunday school; served in all offices on the PTA board at all levels in Modesto, Calif. He volunteered with M & M Ministries for seven years; Aroostook County Rabbit Breeders Club, where he held all offices at one time or another and was 4-H leader for nine years in Aroostook County. He served as treasurer for the County Dialysis Patient Advocate. He loved the Lord, his family and hunting. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Vicki (Karn) Harris of Presque Isle; three sons, Randy Harris and his girlfriend, Laura Cook, of Presque Isle, Jonathan Richards and his wife, Lucila, of Portland, LeRoy Harris and his wife, Vickie, of Presque Isle; stepson, Anthony Baker of California; daughter-in-law, Anna Harris of Presque Isle; grandchildren, Gerald L. Harris III, Matthew R., Jenica R., Jayden G., Caleb, Jeremiah, Jordan and Cole; adopted grandchildren, Timika and Tony Jones, Desirae Brown, Julio Lopez, Alicia Kierstead, Makenzie Brewer, Tristen Haines, Brandon Walters; great-grandchildren, Julio and Julia Lopez, Gwendalynn Jones; a sister, Opal Abbott of Texas; brother-in-law, Richard Abbot Jr. of New York; sister, Ruth Learn and her husband, Bruce, of New York; many nieces, nephews, and cousins, including an aunt, Annie Elwell of Presque Isle; sisters- in-law, Sandra MacLees, Susan Adams and a brother-in-law, Ken Karn. Gerald will be sadly missed by special close friends, Leland and Nancy Keller, Bob and Linda Brown, Ron and Sue Jarvais. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by two brothers, Ralph and William Jr.; a grandson, John John and many other relatives. Family may call from 4-5 p.m. Friday and friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Friday at the Full Gospel Assembly, 7 Dudley St., Presque Isle. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at the Church with the Rev. Kevin Kierstead officiating. Spring interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Caribou. The family would like to thank Dr. David Conner, all doctors, nurses and hospitals for all the wonderful care given to Gerald.
