LINCOLN – Gerald M. “Gid” Leavitt, 83, husband of the late Alice (Blood) Leavitt, passed away Jan. 1, 2008, at a Lincoln health care facility. He was born April 26, 1924, in Chester, the son of Phillip and Lucretia (Reardon) Leavitt. Gid was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and received the Purple Heart. He worked for many years as a log truck driver. He enjoyed spending time with his family, being out on his pontoon boat and baking bean-hole-beans. He is survived by six children and their families, Larry Leavitt and Holly Coffin, Willow Leavitt and Ron Libby, Margo Goodwin, Jill Hartford and her husband, Tim, Martin Leavitt, and Sabrina Fogg; grandchildren, Lee Goodwin, Melissa Hartford, David Fogg Jr., Cassandra Pelletier and Elisha Leavitt; a sister, Rowena Trott; several nieces and nephews, and many friends. In addition to his wife of 58 years, he was predeceased by three sisters, Emma Grass, Norma Libby and Mildred Crocker; and two brothers, Otis “Pud” Leavitt and Albert Farrington. Friends may call 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Jack Stewart officiating.
