BELFAST – Geraldine K. Litty, 91, died peacefully April 1, 2008, at her home. She was born May 21, 1916, in Baltimore. Geraldine grew up in Baltimore and attended Strayers Business College. During World War II she served as a yeoman in the Navy, stationed at the Naval Air Station, Memphis, Tenn. In 1944, she married Frederick L. Litty Jr. and they moved to Belfast in 1946. Geraldine was an active member of the community and performed many years of volunteer work for St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Waldo County General Hospital, Belfast Public Health Nursing Association, Meals on Wheels, and American Cancer Society. She was predeceased by her husband; and by her sister and brother-in-law, Leona and Robert Doory. She is survived by her son and his wife, Frederick and Eileen Litty of Gales Ferry, Conn.; her two grandchildren, Carolyn and Matthew; her brother and his wife, James P. and Martha Klima of Lutherville, Md.; her niece, Susan O’Laughlin of Yorktown, Va.; and her nephews, Robert Doory Jr. and Timothy Doory of Baltimore. A memorial Mass will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, April 5, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Belfast. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Geraldine’s memory to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are under the care of Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast.
